The non-fiction section includes information about the creation
of the United States, images of the founding fathers and the Declaration of Independence, a
map of the U.S. showing the first thirteen colonies, and an overview of the many activities
Americans do to celebrate Independence Day.
Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday with a series of fun art activities based on his books.
The standard that is being addressed is: Demonstrate competence in the general skills and strategies of the reading process.
Students will read Dr. Seuss’ books and participate in different activities for 15 different books.
This unit gives students an occasion to extend their communicative competence in informal settings. It provides them with experience in learning and using language “chunks” and negotiating meaning with native speakers. Students also have the chance to present their work to the mainstream peers and join in group response at an appropriate time.
