A post-Halloween math activity that uses sorting, classification, and a Venn Diagram. Students put their math thinking in writing with this pumpkin puzzler. The purpose of this activity is to give students the opportunity to develop fitness components (cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular fitness, and flexibility) while practicing math skills such as basic computations, statistics, and graphing. If you are able to visit a pumpkin patch and bring pumpkins home, you’re in luck — there are many scientific and mathematical activities you can do with all those pumpkins! Before beginning any activities with the pumpkins we recommend putting each child’s name on his or her “personal pumpkin” with a permanent marker to eliminate any disputes about which pumpkin belongs to whom. Students will * read a chart about ten of the biggest pumpkins in the world. |
