Characteristics of the students:
Foreknowledge: many children may have been in contact with lessons about trees, our nature, the forest and other subjects to his manner. Students from every age know about trees and the forest so most of them know how a tree ‘works’.
Students will: discuss paintings by Vincent van Gogh, independently develop a classification method for trees, create leaf rubbings, and learn about the ways to calculate the age of a tree.
Complete the chart that shows locations and sizes of some of the biggest trees in the United States.
Students will read “The Giving Tree” by Shel Silverstein and learn about the many ways that we use trees in our daily lives.
The purpose of this lesson is to learn about an important man in history and his contribution to society. This will be a cross-curriculum lesson incorporating Social Studies, Language Arts, Math and Science. This lesson was taught over the course of four days.
