Teach how to write a cinquain poem; and to enjoy creating a valentine for a loved one. Students read and respond to poems by Langston Hughes, identifying structures and sound techniques (e.g., rhyme, rhythm, meter, alliteration). In this lesson, students put the lives of historic Black figures into poetic form. Students read, listen to, or view King’s speech and pay close attention to his word use and use of literary devices. They analyze King’s definitions of freedom, justice, discrimination, and dreams as demonstrated by the details in his speech.
Read and respond to the poetry of Langston Hughes then write original poems using Crayola? Gel Markers. |
