Mars

It is likely that some day it will be possible for humans to colonize and sustain life on other planets, especially our neighbor Mars.

Understanding The Universe

Students will understand the following:
1. The stages of evolution a star goes through are determined by the size of the star.

Space Milestones

Students will do the following:
1. Learn about major events in the history of the National Aeronautics & Space Administration (NASA).
2. Create a visual timeline of the goals, heroes, and outcomes of select missions.

Life In Space: International Space Station

Students will understand the following:
1. An environment with almost no gravity challenges humans living in space. Humans must adjust their diets, sanitation, and sleep patterns; wear space suits; and conduct specially designed experiments.
2. ISS inhabitants perform the daily functions of life in space using special products and procedures.

The Space Shuttle

Students will understand the following:
1. From April 1981 through January 1986, 25 space shuttle missions were conducted.
2. During the 25th launch, the space shuttle exploded, destroying the orbiter Challengerand killing its crew of seven.
3. The accident had a far-reaching impact on the space shuttle program, suspending launchings for more than two years, while both NASA and a presidential commission investigated the accident.
