Joshua & the Battle of Jericho

Joshua led the Israelites to victory in the Battle of Jericho. God told Joshua to have the people march
around the city seven times in complete silence. At the end of the seventh time around the city,
Joshua charged the trumpeters to blow their trumpets, and the walls of the city fell down!

Christmas

1. Happy Birthday Jesus: Giving a birthday party for Jesus is a wonderful way to celebrate
Christmas at Sunday school. Talk to the children about Jesus and ask them why we celebrate his
birthday on Christmas. Read the story about his birth.
2. Giving Back: Christmas also provides an excellent time for children to learn about giving
back. Let the children help in a larger church project, or collect toys or food for the needy. You
can even host a gift exchange with the understanding that the toys are given away after the party.

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks for God, friends, family, food, shelter and anything else you
are thankful for. As most people know, the very first Thanksgiving was celebrated after the
Pilgrims learned how to farm and fish from the Indians. The pilgrims were thankful that they
survived a long winter and now had enough food to eat. They celebrated by hosting a feast and
inviting those who helped them. Today, we celebrate Thanksgiving in much of the same way—
we have a big traditional Thanksgiving meal with family and friends.

Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a day in which Americans recognize and honor their military veterans of war. This is a federal
and a state holiday and is celebrated the Monday of the week of November 11. This holiday was first called
Armistice Day and was proclaimed on November 11, 1919 by President Wilson. Later, on November 8, 1954,
this day became known as Veterans Day.

Harvest Celebration

A Harvest Celebration is great for teaching children the wonders of farming and agriculture. This can be
celebrated anytime between September through October, but it is most often celebrated in October. You can
celebrate the Harvest by visiting a farm or a ranch, enjoying farmer’s markets, corn and hay mazes, carnival
games and visiting the local pumpkin patch. This is also a great alternative for Halloween.
