Nehemiah Lesson Plan

Nehemiah did not live in the beautiful city of Jerusalem, but he was a great builder. One day, some bad people
broke into the city and burned the gate. Many people died or left the city out of fear. Nehemiah found out what
had happened and remembered that he had once been to this city. He wanted to help rebuild the desolate city
and the king gave him permission to do so. He and his men began cutting timber to rebuild. He talked to the
people of the city and told him his plan. He began rebuilding a little at a time. Soon a new gate and new
fountains were completed. It wasn’t long before the bad people who had destroyed the city found out about
what Nehemiah was doing. They came to the city, but Nehemiah helped the people protect their city by giving
them weapons and reminding them that God was on their side. They fought off the enemy and their city was
once again beautiful.

Josiah Lesson Plan

Josiah became king of Judah when he was only eight years old. He learned a lot about God and God’s word and
he wanted to live by the word of God. As a young king, he discovered that the temple was not being used
properly. He wanted the temple cleaned out and restored. Everything that did not relate to God was taken out of
the temple and burned. People began to use the temple to worship God again. Inside the temple, the Ten
Commandments, as given to Moses, was discovered. This was very exciting to Josiah, but he was worried
because his people had not lived by God’s word. Josiah then sends word throughout the land about the laws that
God had given the people. The young king promised that he would live by the laws and his people did, too.
They made a promise and asked for forgiveness.

Miriam Lesson Plan

Miriam was the older sister of Moses. When Moses was just a small infant, there was an order to kill all Hebrew
boys. Miriam and her mother were very worried about Moses, so the girl helped hid Moses away in the house.
However, Moses grew and it was getting harder to keep him hidden. Miriam had an idea. She knew that the
Pharaoh’s daughter did not have a child. She thought that if the woman saw Moses, she would want to keep him
for her own child and he would not die. She and her mother placed Moses in a basket and then placed the basket
in the water near the Pharaoh’s daughter. She saw the baby and Miriam came out to talk to the woman. The
woman told her to find someone to care for the baby until he was weaned and then she would raise Moses for
her own. Miriam took Moses back to her mother and he stayed there until he was old enough to live with the
Pharaoh’s daughter. His life was spared because of Miriam’s actions.

Solomon Lesson Plan

Solomon is a very popular biblical figure that ruled over Israel for many years. He was very wise and he is
known as building the first temple in Jerusalem, which it is said took seven years to complete. Solomon was
also known for his wealth and extreme power. In the Bible, it says that Solomon once disobeyed God by
following other gods. God then punished Solomon by taking all but one tribe from his kingdom. He ruled as
king for 40 years and when he died, his son took over the kingdom.

Stephen Lesson Plan

Stephen is a very popular bible hero because he always stood by God’s word, even though he faced persecution
and death. He is considered the very first Christian martyr and served as one of the first seven deacons. He
devoted himself to prayer and faith. Stephen showed good character and God gave him immense power and
gifts. Some people disliked Stephen because they were afraid of him and his faith. They did not understand the
power of God and believed that Stephen should be put to death. He was arrested and even in the face of
pressure, Stephen stood by the word of God and never wavered. He made a speech about God and the people
became angry. They dragged him from the city, and stoned him to death. Even as he was dying he asked for
God to receive his spirit.
