Olympic Field Day

We begin our Olympic Field Day by going through the same procedures that Olympic athletes do. We begin with the Parade of “Athletes” (all students in the classes) who come down to the gym carrying the flag of their “country”, while the music “Summon the Heroes” plays.

Summer Safety Safari

First grade students will demonstrate their understanding of summer safety by creating guidelines for Summer Safety posters.

Making Connections

The day before school starts, I telephone each of my students at their residence. I introduce myself to their parents before speaking with their son or daughter. We chat about what we did over the summer and talk about what we’re looking forward to in the new school year. Many students are chatty, while some are shy. Parent responses to this gesture have been very positive.

Tissue Paper Flowers

Hawaiian women wear flowers behind their ears. Which ear they wear it behind tells gentlemen if they are married or single. Unmarried women wear their flower behind their left ear. It’s sort of like a wedding band.
