“Water Has Many Uses”

Students will participate in several different activities in order to lean about the importance of water in our daily lives.

First Day of School

* Students will get to know me
* Students will demonstrate their ability to reflect upon themselves and their accomplishments by writing on the very first day
* I will learn something interesting/memorable about my students

Authentic Persuasive Writing to Promote Summer Reading

Rather than required readings, Pipkin suggests that we invite students to create their own summer reading opportunities, which they then share and promote within the classroom or school making summer reading projects into student-centered explorations.

Thinking Ahead to Next Year

* write letters or create handbooks or a video offering advice to those students who will follow in their footsteps.
* write letters to themselves for the teacher to mail to them a year or more later.
* write letters to the teachers who will have them in class next year.
