Using Q-tips or new water color brushes, paint animal crackers with edible paint made from corn syrup and food coloring. You can buy plastic animals at the toy store. They are pretty inexpensive. Set up your own little zoo using the plastic animals and the blocks. Cut five monkey shapes out of brown felt and fifteen banana shapes out of yellow felt. Number the monkeys from 1 to 5 and place them on flannel board. Have the children identify the number on each monkey Various poems involving zoo animals put to tunes of familiar songs. Cookie cutters, animal crackers and strawberry baskets, all contribute to teaching counting, adding and sorting. |
