Students will “adopt” a tree and throughout the year will record and examine its characteristics and the changes that it goes through. No matter which of the activities below you select or the equally good ones you come up with yourselves, the important thing is to enjoy the book and Lowry’s skill in creating such memorable characters. Students will research sources to select words, such as terms, place names, or people names, for each letter of the alphabet to best convey the history of the Holocaust. Students will: Identify rhyming words in a story, Discriminate between short u and o sounds, Produce rhyming words when given a keyword in the word family, Blend onsets and rimes aloud to create words, Sort pictures based on their rimes. |
