Lesson Plans - Language ArtsIn this three week lesson, the teacher provides instruction in the basic elements of literature. By reading Dickens’ novel students are provided the opportunity to understand how their choices can change their attitudes and behavior. After listening to Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol and Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch stole Christmas, students create a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the two main characters. The students will practice writing a narrative work as they explain how the Grinch became the way that he did. They will explain how his heart became two sizes too small and why he hated Christmas so much. We often talk about Santa when we talk about gifts, but what about all his elf workers? In this writing activity, students practice writing thank you cards by sending one to Mr. Elf thanking him for all his hard work in making the toys. Students will need to figure out what they would need to survive at the North Pole for a year. Where would they live, what would they eat, and how they would stay warm. |
