Lesson Plans - Music

Oy! Hanukkah!

In prior classes, teach “Oh, Hanukkah! Oh, Hanukkah!” and the Dreidel Song to be sung. I found a menorah at a thrift store [they are common there]. I may have started the lesson by lighting the menorah, even taking turns using the “little helper”.

Little Me In A Big World

Over a three or four day period while looking at obstacles that humans and insects encounter, students will predict, observe and record strategies to overcome them using discussions, role play, and charts.

Music & Songs : Animals > Zoo

Various poems involving zoo animals put to tunes of familiar songs.

Haunting Music

In this lesson about music inspired by the spooky and bizarre, students will learn about orchestra “program music” by exploring the works of Hector Berlioz and Camille Saint-Saëns. Students will learn about Symphonie Fantastique and Danse Macabre, identify and analyze the musical terms and concepts in each piece, and then write a short story and create a class mural based on their listening experiences.

The Beat of Mexico

Students learn about the music of Mexico.
