Lesson Plans - Visual ArtsTo help students become excited about making models of insects, you might want to do some science charting with them. Ask, “What do you know about insects?” And then, “What do you want to know about insects?” The student will use problem solving techniques and critical thinking skills in order to construct and maintain a home specifically suited to his/ her insect pet An insect unit isn’t complete without live insects in the classroom. Many students like to bring insects for ’show and tell.’ While some insects are very hard to keep alive for more than a few days, others can be maintained for much longer periods of time. There are some guidelines in both cases that this publication will attempt to address. By doing research on a certain insect, students can understand a little more about classification, food chains, interactions between organisms in their environment, characteristics of organisms, lifecycles of organisms, structure and function in living systems, to name a few. The student will draw two examples of each of the Arthropod classes on index cards. In pairs, students will play the game “Go Fish”, using their index cards. |
