AIDS in Africa I: The Scope of the Problem

Explain to the students that the impact of HIV/AIDS on African populations is significant, and that the statistics they will review in this lesson show how much more the population of Africa is affected by this disease than is the population of the United States.

What Masks Reveal

While it is perfectly fine to enjoy masks from many cultures as rich, colorful works of art, one can gain a deeper understanding by considering how masks are used in a particular culture and the meanings that the tradition-bearers bring to them.

Sharing African Culture

Students listen to an African American folk tale and draw pictures to illustrate the story.
