In the United States, Halloween is celebrated on October 31. The holiday has its roots in the pre-Christian Celtic festival of Samhain. It was Christianized in the 9th century as “All Hallows’ Eve,” which precedes the Roman Catholic celebration of All Saints’ Day on November 1.
The students will create the first story that will go into their books.
The students begin reading the story making pauses at designated spots. During these pauses the students will predict “What Happens Next.” (I have done this activity in the dark on Halloween.)
You will need multiple copies of the poem “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe for this activity.
Write the following words on the board and ask the students to describe the feelings that come to mind after reading them.
Students write biographies of famous Hispanics.
