Lesson Plans - Visual ArtsThis is a twist to the “What I did on my Summer Vacation” lesson for the first day of school. It is a great icebreaker in any class. Whether it is a special song, a favorite movie, or a family vacation, everyone has special summer memories that are fun to share. In this activity, children think about their own memories and answer questions before asking the same questions of someone older. After comparing summer stories, work together to make a poster that shows what is the same and what is different. Get kids into the summer spirit by making a summer rain stick. This is a cool craft that uses a cardboard mailing tube and uncooked beans to recreate the soothing sounds of a summer downpour. Save the shells you find on the beach this summer and make these adorable little seashell critters. This activity is a great way to test kids’ creativity–have a seashell critter fashion show when you are all done! Sunshine just screams summer! Kids can bring some sunny rays into your own home, day or night, by making this easy craft. |
