Africa’s Struggle With AIDS

This lesson is designed to help students understand the enormity of the impact of AIDS on the population of Africa, by comparing its effect there with its effect on the population of the world in general, and especially on that of the United States.

AIDS in Africa I: The Scope of the Problem

Explain to the students that the impact of HIV/AIDS on African populations is significant, and that the statistics they will review in this lesson show how much more the population of Africa is affected by this disease than is the population of the United States.

How Fast Do Ants Go?

Assigned to measure the speed of an ant, students design the procedures and then collect and analyze data to solve the assigned problem “How fast do ants go?”

Felt Boards : Animals > Zoo

Cut five monkey shapes out of brown felt and fifteen banana shapes out of yellow felt. Number the monkeys from 1 to 5 and place them on flannel board. Have the children identify the number on each monkey
and place that many bananas in front of it.

Math : Animals > Zoo

Cookie cutters, animal crackers and strawberry baskets, all contribute to teaching counting, adding and sorting.
